Welcome to the journal from our 2004 tour of the Veneto and Trentino regions of Italy.
Our plan was to cycle from our home in Chesham to the airport at Heathrow and fly to Venice. Then to head west towards Lake Garda via the ancient cities of Padova, Vicenza and Verona. Then we planned to head north towards Trento and the Dolomites and see how we got on with loaded touring bikes in the mountains. We ended up making it as far as Cortina d’Ampezzo and tackling a few pretty high mountain passes. The road from Cortina back to Venice was pretty much all downhill so we had a couple of days spare to explore the city and the islands. We only got rained on once and completed the whole trip without a single puncture.
