Day 97: Lenno to Promontogno

Saturday July 9, 2005, 75 km (47 miles) – Total so far: 5,824 km (3,619 miles)

It rained all night so our tent’s soaked again but we had great weather for our ride up the west coast of Lake Como. We stopped for lunch in a small café near the north of the lake. It was very disappointing for Italy; microwave pasta meals served in their plastic trays with plastic knives and forks. We expected better from a country with a reputation for serving great food.

It had begun to pour with rain as we crossed the Italian/Swiss border and there is now some fresh snow on the high Alps, in July! We have a good stash of Swiss money left over from last month so we’re staying in a hotel tonight. We have a nice room; it’s a little compact and has a tiny bathroom in a cupboard complete with shower and toilet.
