Day 92: A second day in Briançon

Monday July 4, 2005, 8 km (5 miles) – Total so far: 5,317 km (3,304 miles)

As we’d done a week of solid mountains a second rest day was needed. Besides, the weather was not great, much colder than recent and a bit wet. The forecast is better for tomorrow so we should be off to Italy.

We used the last of the alcohol from Switzerland cooking last night’s dinner (tuna and pasta) so we’ve had to buy some French ‘alcool a bruler’. We’ve had this stuff before and it really smells bad. We may just use it while we’re here and chuck it when we can get some Italian fuel. Finding fuel for the Trangia has been a bit hit-and-miss so far. ‘meths’ is fine in the UK, the French stuff smells awful, it was non-existent in Austria and very expensive in Switzerland.
