Day 9: Cerbère – Collioure

Wednesday June 15, 2011, 80 km (50 miles) – Total so far: 976 km (606 miles)

Today we go our separate ways. Jon was to ride to Perpignan airport to meet his family and enjoy another week of holiday in the area. My plan was to continue riding south into Spain, down to Girona where I have a flight to the UK booked in a couple of days time. That plan however now has to change because I need to arrange the return of my rental bike and finish my journey on foot (not literally, I’ll probably get a train or something).

We cycled together for a while before I managed to contact Craig at Velomondo and arranged for him pick up the bike that afternoon. I said goodbye to Jon and headed off into the hills above Collioure to enjoy a last few kilometres of cycling. I managed to cover quite a bit of ground and climbed to around 700 meters to take in some amazing views of the coastline. There were a lot of other cyclists about as it was another hot sunny day.

I checked in to a nice 3 star hotel near the train station in Collioure, Craig and his son collected the bike, then I spent the afternoon in the village mostly drinking beer, some wine too, but mostly beer. I also bought a ruc-sac in which to put my saddlebag, pedals, the Bagman rack and my cycling shoes.

We had breakfast here. Boulangerie is a French word meaning breakfast, or bread, or something else. Anyway they had coffee and croissants, which was ace
