We had an unintentional rest day today. Agata was not feeling too well, and spent the majority of the day in bed. I took the opportunity to explore Cavalese and the surrounding area. In the morning, I set off on the bike, which was a joy to ride without 30kg of camping equipment weighing it down. A cycle race passed through the town in the morning, there were literally hundreds of riders involved. It looked like a Granfondo, which is similar to the Audax and Sportive rides we have in the UK. I cycled a few kilometres down the valley from Cavalese and came across a feed station for the riders, I was tempted to nip in for a free slice of melon and a banana.
I spent the afternoon exploring the valley on foot. The whole Valle di Fiemme is idyllic, wandering through the pastures I saw local farmers herding cows with bells through luscious green fields and streams carrying ice-cold water from the mountains via torrents and waterfalls to the river below, its banks swollen with water from the night’s heavy rainfall.
