Day 8: Amiens to Dieppe

Friday April 13, 2007, 115 km (71 miles) – Total so far: 867 km (539 miles)

We arrived in the port of Dieppe shortly before 5pm, on a shorter day than we’ve become accustomed to. There were also a few climbs on today’s route, it was quite a shock us having become used to the flat terrain.

We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch of paté and French baguette between two lakes, we have stopped eating in cafés and restaurants at lunchtime because the money is running low. I mislaid and therefore cancelled my ATM card a day before the tour and I have to rely on my cash reserves and American Express card, and Amex is not as widely accepted in France as it is in the UK – they certainly frown on you if you try to use it to buy a sandwich.

Tonight’s hotel is a little more expensive than we’ve been used to, I guess they’re taking advantage of being on the harbour side. The room is certainly no better than our previous accommodation, the TV fell off the wall while we were having dinner!
