It was bicycle repair day today and Dave (my dad) drove me down the valley to the cycle shop in Brig. The shop was very well equipped. One of the two mechanics set about fixing my wheel whilst Dave and I browsed the shop, we then had a coffee in the on-site café. It was the sort of shop I wouldn’t mind running myself. They must do really well in this valley, there’s a popular cycle path running along the River Rotten, as the Upper Rhone is called in Valais.
With my missing spokes replaced we returned to the campsite, cleaned the bikes, treated our leather saddles, fitted a few spares and replaced the handlebar tape. So everything’s now ship-shape and we’re ready to leave in a few days. I bought three spare spokes from the shop and have taped them to my downtube. I’m sure I won’t need them of course.
