Wednesday June 15, 2005, 92 km (57 miles) – Total so far: 4,617 km (2,869 miles)
It rained all night and the tent was soaked again. Then things got worse… almost simultaneously the internal workings of Agata’s front hub disintegrated and ‘ping’, I broke a spoke in my rear wheel. We struggled into a small town called Niederurnen where a couple of young mechanics set to work on the repairs: new cones for the hub and a replacement spoke – it cost us nearly 50 Swiss Francs. Not sure what that is in Euros, but nothing is cheap in Switzerland.
The weather improved as the day went on and after a terrible lunch from a burger van in the car park of a Spar supermarket the sun finally broke through.
Then, ‘ping’ – I broke another spoke as we approached Zug which I’ve replaced using the emergency spoke repair kit. The good news is that the weather forecast for tomorrow looks ace: 32°c and sunshine. Maybe we’ll get to swim in one of those lakes?
