Day 63: Kötschach Mauthen to Heiligenblut

Sunday June 5, 2005, 80 km (50 miles) – Total so far: 3,987 km (2,477 miles)

Today’s route saw us take in three climbs in excess of 1,000m altitude. We stopped for lunch in Lienz where we met two Australian cycle tourists who are doing a similar trip to us; they will be following us over the Groβglockner tomorrow – the fools!

Heiligenblut itself is at an altitude of 1,280m and staying here gets us a fair way up climb of the Groβglockner, it’s only another 1,200 meters to the top! It’s quite cold here and there’s still a bit of snow about.
