Day 59: Poljana –to Radovljica

Wednesday June 1, 2005, 116 km (72 miles) – Total so far: 3,729 km (2,317 miles)

A long day in the mountains, we crossed the border back into Austria then climbed to 1215m over the Steiner Alpen back into Slovenia. We had our passports checked at this border, maybe nobody had told them about the EU expansion? There is a big difference in the quality of road surfaces between the two countries; I took a photo on the Slovenian side of the border of a hole in the road that you could fall through and we saw a little more off-road action as we approached Radovljica.

We’re staying in a nice campsite that has only opened for the season today – lucky us. After dark the campsite became a playground for fireflies, we drank some cheap & tasty Slovenian white wine and watched them fly about in the darkness.
