Day 40: Kapfelberg to Straubing

Friday May 13, 2005, 83 km (52 miles) – Total so far: 2,613 km (1,624 miles)

Today was lovely and sunny contrary to all predictions (and it’s Friday 13th). We had lunch in Regensburg and a walk about. Spargel with Hollandaise sauce was on the menu – we had to try it whilst in Bavaria. Spargel is everywhere. It translates as asparagus, but it’s not the green variety that’s popular in the UK. It’s white and the spears are much wider. Tastes similar though.

Regensburg is a great town, and is one of the few medieval cities in Germany to survive the carpet-bombing of the War. We managed to pick up the Passau to Wien section of the Radweg guide plus all the maps we need for Austria in a specialist map shop.

Could this be summer at last?
