Day 4: Amstelveen to Rotterdam

Monday April 9, 2007, 78 km (48 miles) – Total so far: 326 km (203 miles)

We got up quite late following a late night out on the beers and telephoned the cycle shop, Darren’s wheel was ready so we headed into Amsterdam to pick it up and have some lunch. We finally got back on the road at 3pm and pedalled south to Rotterdam stopping only once for a drink and a plate of chips in Gouda. Gouda was actually a charming little town with a nice historical centre, with the majority of houses being set on individual islands accessed by little bridges.

We rolled into Rotterdam at about 8pm and have checked into the youth hostel, not bad value at €€21 each for bed and breakfast.

The weather is still amazing for April and if anything it’s getting warmer. I am getting quite a good suntan.

The cycle route network is excellent, these little signs soon became our best friends
