Day 4: Bilbao to Mundaka (Portamondo)

Thursday April 7, 2005, 66 km (41 miles) – Total so far: 220 km (137 miles)

The Basque coastline is not flat, but it’s quiet. Probably how the French Riviera once was before Europe’s hoteliers discovered the place. The scenery is great, well, what we can see of it – for today it rained.

We’re staying in a nice campsite, just us and a camper van from Germany. I’m sure in the months to come we will be glad of some rain, but for our first day in Spain it’s a bit grim. It’s surprisingly green for the time of year and some of the trees are already in full summer bloom, at first I thought it was because of the warmer Spanish climate, but it’s more likely the rain.
