Day 22: Thiers to Roanne

Monday April 25, 2005, 73 km (45 miles) – Total so far: 1,323 km (822 miles)

It rained on and off all day today, we stopped for lunch in an old barn near Arconsat before crossing the Monts de la Madeleine of the Montagne Borbonnaise range through very wet pine forests. Our highest point was the Col de la Charme which was closed to regular traffic following the recent snowfall and a few fallen trees, almost all of the snow had melted but there was plenty of evidence of the trees.

Roanne is a nice town on the Loire river, not too touristy and very pleasant. Not a bad day at all.
