Day 183: Cartagena to Mazarrón

Monday October 3, 2005, 46 km (29 miles) – Total so far: 11,258 km (6,995 miles)

There was an annular eclipse of the sun this morning. It went pretty dark and I managed to get a couple of good photos.

I dropped in on a medical centre after leaving Cartagena and was able to see a doctor almost immediately. My penicillin has been replaced by three completely different treatments; a fungicide (the Spanish doc called it an ‘anti-mushroom’), a lotion and some pills. I hope it’s more effective than the antibiotics, they seemed to be making me worse.

We tried to hire a crap mobile home on a campsite but they wanted €60 a night for it. A nearby 2-star hotel was offering a great room with air-con and satellite TV for only €€35. So we’re now in the hotel.

During a nice long descent today I managed to clock 78 kph, that’s the fastest speed of the tour. I’m usually too scared to look at the computer when travelling above 60 kph, but the road was nice and straight.

It's amazing what erosion can do, the photo doesn't really convey the size of these things
