Day 180: The Fever

Friday September 30, 2005

I’ve had a swollen gum for a couple of days and this morning I woke to find my mouth covered in ulcers, I have swollen glands and a light fever.

Agata found a medical centre for me and after skilfully negotiating with the receptionist (by pointing into my mouth and repeating the word ‘Doctor’) I was able to see a Spanish doctor.

I’ve been prescribed antibiotics and high doses of paracetamol for the fever. It’s a great feature of the EU that I can walk into any doctors’ surgery in Spain and be seen for free. I spent the afternoon in bed feeling sorry for myself whilst being bitten by mosquitoes.
