Day 172: Barcelona to Tarragona

Thursday September 22, 2005, 94 km (58 miles) – Total so far: 10,574 km (6,570 miles)

We didn’t choose the best route to Tarragona. The first 25 km was rugged mountainous countryside but the rest of the day fairly flat with way too many trucks. We were toying with the idea of getting a boat to Mallorca but decided to head south on discovering that Tarragona is mid-festival. Looking forward to some good food, music and dancing with local bands and DJs set to play throughout the night.

We wanted to be near the town for the festival and the campsites are a little too far out. The youth hostel was full, so we are in a cheap hotel that’s actually OK. We have our own little courtyard for the bikes and the hotel’s only room with en-suite facilities.
