Day 16: Sarlat to Beaulieu-s-Dordogne

Tuesday April 19, 2005, 90 km (56 miles) – Total so far: 993 km (617 miles)

Today’s rain seemed wetter than normal, maybe because it was almost constant rather than the usual showers? or perhaps it was because it’s become a little colder? Either way, it was ghastly weather and did spoil our enjoyment of the spectacular scenery and beautiful medieval cities.

Sarlat is a jewel of the Dordogne, as is our lunch stop Martel, but once again we couldn’t fully enjoy it as we felt so cold and wet. Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is another ancient city which we will explore this evening. Our hotel is run by a young couple who’ve recently taken charge. They have a lot of work to do still in renovating the place, the room was very basic, but the food was excellent.

Had our second puncture today; we’re approaching 1000 km and the bikes are filthy.
