Day 16: Cavallino to Chesham

Saturday July 10, 2004, 66 km (41 miles) – Total so far: 925 km (575 miles)

We packed up early for the 25km ride back from Cavallino to the airport. Checking in was was less tricky than in London, although one of my pedals was stuck fast – I tried standing on the multi-tool for extra power and snapped it clean in two.

Back in London we were relieved to discover that the bikes had survived the return journey undamaged, after a quick re-assembly we headed back to the Chilterns and home. I raced on ahead to catch our local supermarket before it closed, by the time Agata returned there was a chicken in the oven and an open bottle of wine on the table.

Neither of us dared mention it until we were safely home, but we managed the whole trip without a single puncture.

The familiar leafy lanes of the Chiltern Hills welcome us home. There's a reason it's so nice and green here, apparently it's been raining constantly since we left.
