Day 154: Bollène to Vallon-Pont-d’Arc

Sunday September 4, 2005, 57 km (35 miles) – Total so far: 9,504 km (5,906 miles)

Having crossed the Rhône at Pont-St-Esprit we spent the day on the Haute Corniche, the picturesque road above the Gorges d’Ardèche. Wonderful scenery again but very tough cycling.

We’re camping tonight near to the Pont d’Arc and are planning to take a canoe out on the river tomorrow. I hope the weather holds as its very windy this evening.

We had a great meal last night in the hotel at Bollène. The main course was a boiled duck dish followed by some fantastic cheeses all washed down with plenty of Cotes de Ventoux. Having climbed the mountain we certainly deserved to enjoy the wine. The couple running the hotel gave us a wine-pouring device as a gift when we left. It prevents wine from spilling onto the tablecloth whilst you’re pouring it.

I had a flat front tyre this morning and my trip computer wasn’t working again… things are starting to wear out.

Our next gorge, the beautiful Ardèchè
