Day 149: Another rest day in Castellane

Tuesday August 30, 2005

It’s so lovely here we decided to stay and make sure our knees get better.

Castellane is already very quiet as high-season just came to a rather abrupt end. As in Italy, everybody in France takes their holidays in August, and pretty much only in August. So most French tourists have left, leaving just a handful of us foreigners roaming about the place. There are plenty of English and Germans, a few cars from Poland and Belgium, the ever present Dutch, there are still a fair number of cycle tourists about.

It’s started getting cold at night again, and after our month of intense heat in Italy, it’s quite an unusual sensation to be cold again. It should start to become a little cooler by day too, which is good for cycling.

We’re still looking forward to that canyon.
