Day 143: Chiavari to Genova

Wednesday August 24, 2005, 68 km (42 miles) – Total so far: 8,792 km (5,463 miles)

We followed the Aurelia to Genova along the spectacular hilly coastline. We’re hoping it will be like this all the way to Monte Carlo.

Genova itself, like most Italian cities, was fantastic in the centre but tatty around the edges. We spent a good part of the day riding around the city looking for the Olmo cycle shop. Agata’s front hub is making a lot of noise again and we were hoping to get it fixed. It turned out to be a waste of time, their mechanic said there’s nothing wrong with the bike, I guess we’ll find out over the next few weeks whether he was right.

We’re staying in quite a good campsite near Genova, ‘Villa Doria’ was a short ride north in Pegli. I’ve actually camped here before, a very long time ago and it hasn’t changed much. We’re looking forward to the rest of Liguria and the Italian Riviera; it’s really nice here, like the lakes at Como and Maggiore, the best bits of Italy.
