Chiavari is not just a seaside resort, it’s quite a lively little town. We took a few photos and did some shopping in the market. Agata posted another batch of maps back to the UK and I finally managed to get a haircut. The barber was excellent, the fastest pair of scissors in Italy.
We ate lunch in a nice park and then took a train a few kilometres down the coast to Santa Margherita Ligure, another lovely seaside town. At the beginning of the 20th century, Santa Margherita was an internationally renowned resort but is now not as well known as its glitzy neighbour Portofino. It has an attractive palm-lined harbour, a small beach and some nice little bars and restaurants. A very pleasant day off.
