Day 141: Volastra –to Chiavari

Monday August 22, 2005, 76 km (47 miles) – Total so far: 8,724 km (5,421 miles)

It was a great little apartment we rented yesterday and both of us now wish we had stayed another day. It had a very comfy bed; I could have slept for a week.

Volastra and neighbouring Groppo are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Tiny cliff-top villages in a really beautiful area known called Cinque Terre. It’s an extremely picturesque bit of coastline.

I have a very painful right knee joint that started hurting yesterday and has been steadily getting worse. Therefore, we’ve decided to stay in a cheap hotel for a couple of days and get some proper rest.
