Day 136: Siena

Wednesday August 17, 2005, 10 km (6 miles) – Total so far: 8,351 km (5,189 miles)

I managed to get my spoke replaced in Siena in a very busy little shop called Rossi. The guy who ran the place was also the mechanic and he stopped work on my wheel every time a customer came in, it took ages but only cost €€4.

Siena was beautiful, the Piazza del Campo was being cleaned up following the Palio and there were photos of the race about the town. The purple guy had won so purple flags adorned the city and were waved by the town’s children during a noisy victory parade.

The campsite is now half empty as most of the campers were here for the festival. There are still plenty of cyclists here. Tuscany seems very popular for bike touring, despite all the hills.
