The sunshine returned for our day of sightseeing in Rome. We just walked about the city deciding to save the proper tourism (galleries, museums, Vatican City etc) for a city break out of high season. The queue for the Vatican museum was extraordinarily long.
There’s a surprisingly large amount of Roman remains dotted around the city, but not on the same scale as Pompeii, you can imagine the splendour of the city at the height of its power – it must have been an amazing place.
We had a dip in the campsite pool in the afternoon. It’s a lovely site with excellent facilities, the pizza in the restaurant is pretty good too and we should know, we’ve eaten a lot of pizza recently.
