Day 125: Sightseeing in Sorrento

Saturday August 6, 2005

This is the first of a few days in the area while we wait for replacement tent poles to arrive from Sweden. We swam in the Mediterranean, the third sea of our trip, it is much cooler than the Adriatic but still great. I dived off some rocks into the crystal clear water.

In the morning, we explored Sorrento’s interesting narrow streets, the place is packed with tourists and many seem to be from the UK. Some of the bars were showing cricket which I’m pretty sure isn’t a big sport in Italy.

We had lunch in a restaurant on a jetty with views of the volcano and the old port. It really is very beautiful and not surprising it’s so crowded. It would probably be better to visit here in April or October as the hordes of tourists and inflated prices tend to spoil the mood a little.
