Day 122: Mattinata to Foggia

Wednesday August 3, 2005, 96 km (60 miles) – Total so far: 7,522 km (4,674 miles)

We awoke to a heavy cover of cloud that looked like it could turn to rain at any moment. It waited until lunchtime to start, but what a storm. We were just leaving a restaurant when the chairs outside began blowing across the courtyard. It was like a hurricane, I’ve never experienced anything like it.

After the storm passed, we had a flat ride to Foggia where we would spend two hours looking for a reasonably priced hotel. The Tourist Office was impossible to find and when we did finally track it down, it was closed. There’s no campsite here so we’ve checked into the 3 star Hotel Venezia where we have a nice air-conditioned room for €€65. It will be good to sleep in a bed in a cool room again after so long in a very hot, sweaty tent.

Our last climb of Gargano, a great part of Italy, highly recommended
