Day 107: Rest day in Venice

Tuesday July 19, 2005

It was nice to be back in Venice. We took a boat from the campsite to the centre, it’s the best way to arrive in the city because Venice is Europe’s largest car-free area, no bicycles allowed either.

It was very hot in the sunshine although the narrow streets do provide some shade. Venice can be a bit pricey so we bought our lunch from a small supermarket and ate on a bench overlooking the Grand Canal. We did get to experience some high season tourist prices though; €€16 for a couple of coffees and two glasses of water. Lovely.
