Wednesday April 13, 2005, 87 km (54 miles) – Total so far: 567 km (352 miles)
A stunning sunny day cycling spent almost entirely on the forest cycle paths. We stopped at St Girons Plage for lunch and watched the Atlantic waves. The cycle path through the forest runs almost constantly from Capbreton near Biarritz up to Arcachon and Bordeaux, it’s badly signposted in places but is one of the most tranquil and fragrant cycle rides in France and is thoroughly recommended. The tourist information people should make more of an effort promoting it.
Camping tonight is by the lake at Mimizan in the municipal site. We were saved by the Tourist Office again after being unable to find a campsite open (20 of today’s 87 km were spent cycling around Mimizan looking for somewhere to stay).
